Bad Cat Amplifiers | CME Exclusive Mod Shop Hot Cat 50
American Boutique Quality Meets British Rawness and Timeless Rock N’ Roll with The Newest CME Exclusive Bad Cat Amplifier!
Dating back to 1999, Bad Cat has brought in talent from all corners of the amp world, most notably Matchless founder Mark Sampson! Their dedication to building Class A amplifiers with a British-inspired growl has drawn praise and use from players as varied as John Rzeznik, Nick Johnston, and Bonnie Raitt!
That’s why we’re excited to team up with Bad Cat or our newest CME Exclusive amplifiers: the Bad Cat Mod Shop Hot Cat 50 1x12” Combo Amp and Amp Head in Black Levant! We started with the Bad Cat Mod Shop Hot Cat 50, added some Marshall-inspired visual touches (and a gold chassis), and added two of our favorite tonal modifications: first, we added a vintage/modern gain switch that shifts the gain structure and tones from the character of a classic Plexi amp, to the more aggressive tones of the JCM800! Next, we added EC Collins Pinstripe Grill Cloth, evoking the tonal response of some of the most iconic lead guitar tones EVER recorded! Available in both a 1x12” combo amp, and as a 50 watt amp head, this is one amp you’re definitely going to want in your tonal arsenal, so call us today at 773-525-7773, chat with our sales experts on our website, or simply come into our Lincoln Avenue Showroom to grab yours!
Hot Cat 50: Like Three Boutique Amps in One!
Hot Cat 50 is point-to-point hand-wired in Costa Mesa, California, with one simple goal: to be a road-ready, uncompromising amplifier! At the center of this version of the Hot Cat 50 are custom-wound Bad Cat transformers and a series of EL34, 6CA7, and KT77 tubes! These all push a UK-made Celestion Speaker (on the combo amp) with 50 watts of Class A power!
Hot Cat 50 is like plugging into 3 different boutique amps at the same time! In channel 1 and LO gain settings, Hot Cat 50 pushes out the classic glassy, Fender-esque clean tones you’ve heard on records for decades! Switch the gain profile switch from “LO” to “HI”, and Hot Cat 50 shows its claws with the kind of snappy grit that will make Tele players drool!
Where our version of the Hot Cat 50 really stands out is on channel 2! Bad Cat’s Marshall-inspired overdrive is what put them on the map, and we’ve taken this to the next level with a custom “VINTAGE/MODERN” tone stack resistor switch for channel 2! On the “VINTAGE” side, the tone stack is scooped, and the ends of the EQ spectrum feel slightly more open, recalling the character of a vintage Plexi. Flip the switch to “MODERN”, and the tone stack focuses, adding a slightly more cutting character, reminiscent of a JCM800!

When we were designing our ideal Hot Cat 50, one detail HAD to be included: EC Collins Pinstripe Cloth! Originally used on certain Marshall combo amps and amp cabinets in the mid ‘60s, EC Collins Pinstripe cloth is comprised of magnetized strips with a cloth background, which results in a unique sound filtering that rolls off the highest and lowest frequencies, and results in a muscular, midrange-forward tone (for a sonic example, listen to “The Beano Album”, where Eric Clapton utilized a 1960 Les Paul plugged into an overdriven Marshall Bluesbreaker amplifier). The result is that every note sings with massive power, giving off holy grail classic rock vibes!
Over the last 25 years, Bad Cat has cemented itself as a heavyweight in the boutique amplifier space for its handwired quality, intense attention to detail, and beloved takes on classic amplifier tones! We’re proud to partner with them to bring our dream vintage British-inspired amp to life, and we know you will love it too!
